Jayant Datta has been teaching at Syracuse University as an adjunct faculty since the summer of 1999. In addition to having a passion for teaching, he is professionally involved in a number of different areas. He serves on the Technical Committee for Signal Processing at the Audio Engineering Society, he is on the Administrative Committee and the Executive Committee of IEEE's Consumer Electronics Society. He has co-authored two text books related to digital audio, has authored papers and articles; and chaired audio sessions at international conferences.
Mr. Datta has been involved in the area of digital audio since 1988. He co-founded Discrete Laboratories, Inc. (2000) to provide digital audio consulting expertise to manufacturers of audio and video equipment. He has worked in a number of diverse areas: from consumer audio through prosumer, professional, broadcast, and automotive audio including cutting-edge digital cinema systems. He has had the opportunity to work with engineers from a number of audio companies such as:
Adcom, Analog Devices, Anthem (Paradigm), B&K Components, DTS, Dolby Laboratories, Gradiente, Lake Audio, Marantz (Philips), Meridian, Motorola, NAD Electronics (Lenbrook), QuVIS, SRS Labs (Microsoft), Sample Rate Systems (Flextronics), Sensaura (EMI), Sunfire, THX, Texas Instruments, Visteon, Wavearts, Waves, Wheatstone ... to name a few.
Mr. Datta holds a B. Tech (1988) degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institue of Technology (IIT), Bombay, INDIA; an M.S. (1992) from the School of Music in Music Engineering, and an M.S. (1993) in Electrical & Computer Engineering, both from the University of Miami, FL, USA.
Jayant recently completed work on the premium sound system for the 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and is involved in developing new audio techniques to be implemented by George Lucas' (of Star Wars fame) audio company, THX.
